Janice Mayer

Janice L. Mayer moved to New Mexico in 2015 to serve as Executive Director of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale where she was responsible for all administrative, fundraising, and marketing functions of the nonprofit organization. Believing that arts organizations should give back to the communities in which they are based, she initiated a robust community engagement program including founding “Hearts in Harmony,” a weekly choral program at the Interfaith Community Shelter. Previously she served in leadership positions in New York City arts organizations, including the New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Shubert Organization, Musica Sacra, and Classical Action: Performing Arts Against AIDS. She was a Vice President at Columbia Artists Management, Inc. and founded Janice Mayer & Associates LLC, an international artist management firm which she directed for eleven years. Consulting clients have included The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Harlem School of the Arts, Caminos del Inka, Inc. and both Celebrate the Beat, the Colorado-based affiliate of the National Dance Institute, and NDI New Mexico. She has served on numerous grant panels at the federal, state, and local levels. Janice Mayer was the first Artist Manager elected to the Board of Directors of OPERA America.

Janice Mayer holds a BA in American Studies/History with a secondary concentration in Dance from Connecticut College. She completed a Masters of Public Administration degree with a specialization in Arts Administration from New York University where she also taught as adjunct faculty. She is a Certified Fundraising Executive.

The Massachusetts native enjoys all genres of the performing arts. Attending tennis tournaments and watching the Tennis Channel with her three-year old (mostly) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel rescue “Happy” are her guilty pleasures!
